This is good stuff, as they say.A global map at the beginning shows where each species lives and a key explains the range of categories from “Not vulnerable” up to “Extinct”. At the end, author Clinton explains the categories and provides suggestions for families who want to save animals. Can we actually do something? Yes, we can, in simple, normal act ivities. In the book, each two pages is devoted to a species, and we learn why each is in trouble. Talented artist Marino has provided marvelous, large pictures so a child of any age can browse the book by themself and I predict they will want to. While a single paragraph provides diverse facts about each species, they are loaded paragraphs. For this reason, it may be a book that one can read repeatedly and learn something new each time, or you may want to limit readings for the young ones to just a few animals each time. Overall, I’d be more inclined to recommend the book for 2nd and 3rd grades (for the written content), and even slightly older grades would find this a good resource they can easily understand and use for assignments. I’d like to see more books like this. Wonderful. My 6 yr old wants to be a marine biologist. She enjoyed listening so much. She wants to help make sure these animals don't disappear. We are working on ways we can help beside recycling which we do. She is excited to bring this book to school Monday.
